The ram breeding nucleus is stable at around 250 ewes. The average Ashby mature stud ewe cuts 4.8-5kg/ annum of 16 micron wool. She is economically fault free. The flock is run at above district stocking rates and have to compete for feed with a large commercial ewe flock as well as a commercial cattle herd. The livestock enterprises are low maintenance and have to complement cropping activities. All enterprises are benchmarked annually to ensure there are no passengers in the Ashby business.
